For more than 20 years, I served in an Oregon church wearing many hats—youth pastor, ministry care director, director of lay counseling, and discipleship mentor. Simultaneously, I was working on a Multidisciplinary Studies degree with focus on Christian Counseling from Liberty University. By the end of my degree program, I was frustrated that the experience our youth group was providing was mostly applying spiritual band-aids. We weren't seeing lasting fruit or transformed lives. About that time, I found Neil T. Anderson’s materials on finding freedom in Christ and devoured them. For the first time, I began to understand scripture and apply it in a way that truly freed me from deception, bondage, and cycles of sin. To make a long story short, I found my beliefs that I had to earn Gods' approval, compensate for my mistakes, and perform—were simply wrong. They were lies of the enemy. Only Christ could fulfill my needs and enable me to live freely and lightly. It transformed me.
In 2016, I began focusing discipleship counseling on Freedom in Christ principles. In 2019 I was appointed Oregon State Director for Freedom in Christ Ministries. Our youth group became free from darkness as students began to know and apply their personal identities in Christ. It was then I found myself wondering, “Now what?” The answer came gently, slowly, and with certainty.
My husband, James, and I have always been passionate about reaching and teaching teens and young adults. God revealed the opportunity He had chosen through a practicum session in San Antonio, Texas, in 2021. Today, we're taking Him up on His assignment to lead GenFree for Freedom In Christ Ministries. And we're expectantly watching to see God work like only He can.
